Neck finish guide

A working reference for reading neck finish designations and matching a closure to a container before a fit trial rather than after one.

A neck finish designation such as 38-400 encodes two things: the nominal diameter in millimetres and the thread style. Getting either wrong produces a closure that appears to fit and then fails on torque, on seal or in distribution.

This guide is in preparation and will cover the common designations, the dimensional callouts that matter, and how to specify a finish when you are moving a product between container suppliers.

01

Reading the callout

What the two numbers in a finish designation actually specify.

02

Dimensions that matter

The measurements that decide fit, and the ones that do not.

03

Switching suppliers

How to specify a finish when moving a product between container sources.
